We manage and execute our extensive portfolio of investment projects through the Office of the Vice Presidency of Projects (VP), an expert organization in the matter, which conceptualizes, designs, builds and sets in motion all geo-mining-metallurgical projects exceeding US$ 10 million.
2011 Structural Projects
EXPLORATIONS
(2.5) Number of countries where the organization operates, and names of countries with either major operations or that are specifically relevant to the sustainability issues covered in the report. Explorations were intensified in 2011, with our main focus being the mining districts around current production centers. This year, the most relevant results were achieved in the Andina District, the same as in 2010.
On an international level, we obtained interesting mineralized intersections in the Carajas District in Brazil and Ecuador, under an agreement between Codelco and state owned company Enami Ep. In other countries we continue to monitor and search for opportunities, with priority given to the Andean countries, especially Colombia.
We maintain partnerships with six mining companies in the following projects in Chile:
- Pasaca with Rio Tinto,
- Puntilla-Galenosa with Pucobre,
- Anillo with Fortune Valley,
- Los Lobos with Hot Chili,
- Sierra JardÃn and Cumbre with Antofagasta Minerals,
- Desierto with MMX.
Our exploration activities are organized in two subsidiaries:
- Sociedad Exploraciones Mineras Andinas Inc. owned by Codelco and located in Chile.
- Codelco do Brasil Minera.
