Sustainability challenges and commitments

(1.2) Key impacts, risks and opportunities.

Our challenge is to always be a highly responsible company, producing copper while ensuring compliance with the highest standards of quality. In 2012, we intend to carry out two new structural projects related to sustainability, whose creation would be one of the major milestones for this year because, for the first time, these subjects will be covered in major projects, on which the future of the company depends.

Within the framework of the Structural Project for Occupational Health and Safety, our goal is to have zero fatal accidents and lower our professional disease and accident rate. These are key priorities to complying with our core value of respect for people’s lives and dignity. Within the framework of the Structural Project for the Environment and Community, we seek to bridge our outstanding gaps and apply the standards that we have designed, so as to raise the requirement of fulfilling our goals in this area.

As indicated in our Corporate Policy on Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Management, compliance with regulations and voluntary commitments is essential and a priority for us, as is collaborating with authorities to refine the applicable regulations.

Our commitment is to comply with our policies and with the development of each of the structural projects that solidify the Corporation’s operational capacity, and thus achieve our production objectives and of contribution to the State.

How did we do in 2011?

The commitments set for 2011 involved important efforts for the Corporation, presenting various degrees of compliance in each matter.
