Progress

In 2021 Codelco developed a new seal for territorial engagement that meets the following characteristics:

Standardization of community management processes.

  • Professionalization of community relations teams.
  • Involvement of operations in the development of community relations actions.
  • Co-building with the territories, through mechanisms of participation and community dialogue.
  • Development of strategic territorial alliances.
  • Optimization of transparency and reportability practices towards different stakeholders.

Within this framework, five land development programs are active in the areas with Codelco operations:

The objective is to support the development of local suppliers for the purpose of adding them to the Codelco value chain and guiding them through correct participation in special tender processes that Codelco will enable for them. Our commitment is to increase the purchase of goods and services supplied by local suppliers by 60% and includes alliances with industry associations, suppliers, etc.

This initiative encourages the hiring of local labor in Codelco contracting companies. Employment opportunities in service companies, support in operations and projects will be connected to the labor supply available at the local level. The goal is to increase the recruitment of local workers by 10 per cent. Training, worker data collection, job fairs, etc.

This involves an educational support program for specific subjects including mathematics and languages, with a view to improving academic performance through concrete and specific key performance indicators.
The goal is to obtain measurable results in the short and medium term regarding the learning of students and their subsequent employability. The program works with 12 high schools in all divisions with the support of the Enseña Chile Foundation, who have extensive national experience in this area.

The objective is to collaborate on solutions for the lack of water in communities close to our operation (supply is currently addressed with water trucks). A diagnosis will be made that will specify the current weaknesses that may limit the continuous access to water in some areas and will support future solutions, working together with the respective board o directores of Hydraulic Works and with the communities.

Corporate volunteering program, validated by the company, which formalizes the support given by our professionals to the community development in the different territories within our area of influence. The objective is to motivate workers to contribute their experience and knowledge to incorporate the execution of Codelco's territorial strategy with social value.
