Expected impacts

  • Achieve good air quality in the neighboring communities using our operations with respect to MP10 levels.
  • Reduce local MP10 emissions in locations close to operations.
  • Achieve synergies with future emission offsetting projects and with the commitment to territory development with social value.

Proposed solutions

  • Execute actions for the reduction of local MP10 emissions in the localities neighboring Codelco:

Pavement

Street cleaning

Erythrocyte site intervention

Generation of green areas

  • Focus efforts on standardization and control of MP10 in operations, to minimize the impact on nearby locations.
  • Promote emission reduction projects in operations in the Central Southern District.

PREPARATION OF THE CORPORATE GUIDE FOR THE OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT OF AIR QUALITY

A corporate guide is being developed to standardize the management of air quality in the divisions, with an operational focus. This guide includes emission control measures, air quality monitoring in operations and areas of influence, setting alert levels with operational response, and forecasting models, among other aspects. This protocol will be available in December 2022.

CALAMA EMISSIONS INVENTORY

The development of an emission inventory for the city of Calama will soon begin, which will allow us to identify potential alternatives to reduce MP emission from local sources within the city and/or its surroundings.
